Russian letters [R] and [x] in elinks: how to fix?

This is how elinks displays 2 Russian letters [Р] and [x] ... it doesn't really interfere, but it's annoying.
elinks 0.12pre6 / Mac OS 10.9.1 / Installed via Homebrew
The last release of stable 0.11.7 does not open sites at all, I googled that the bug is being treated with the new version (I installed it).
