Router freezes

Strange problem. There is a Netgear WNDR3800 router. The Internet comes into it, it works without any logins and passwords.
A wi-fi access point and a switch are connected to the router, to which 3 more access points are connected in turn.
All access points - D-Link DAP-2360.

Periodically (2-3 times a day) the Internet began to disappear, after which the web face of the router becomes inaccessible. Also, the ping to the router increases from 1 ms to ~ 50 ms. After 10-15 minutes everything goes back to normal.

Previously, instead of Netgear, there was tp-link wr1043nd. He generally hung up and did not come to his senses until you rebooted him several dozen times. Wrong on him. I can not understand in any way what is the problem and where to dig. What could be the problem?

temperature regimes? Cooling?
Power supply - interference? Is the power supply overheating?

First of all, you should probably think about parasitic traffic. Is the ip white on the router?
If white, then frequent attacks by some Chinese are a very common reason for routers to freeze.
If the router is not visible from the Internet, spurious traffic can be generated by someone who sees the router or faulty equipment on the line.

didn’t change, so I wanted to ask what to think about in the first place, so as not to just spend money

It would also be nice to look at the loading of the router: how much the percent is loaded, what processes are going on there, what exactly is loading it, if there is a load on the processor. Maybe the replacement of the router did not help, because the situation was from the category of “an sew on the soap”? That is, stupidly a piece of iron can not cope with the load, and therefore hangs.

Silly question, but still: have you tried changing the firmware?
Maybe even openwrt...

I solved this problem simply, download avz, set the search for everything in the maximum mode (especially to search for rootkits, they lay down the router), after stripping, we clean Austlogic Bootspeed versions 5.4 or 5.5, the most stable .. after that everything falls into place ... and about OpenWrt, if you correctly adjust the firewall, then even the speed of the Internet starts to cut less at times, i.e. just an ideal ... And if you leave the firewall as it is, then it also cannot cope with freezing ...
