Reliable and simple NAS from the cheapest, what to choose?

Hello!
For a very small organization, there is a need for a very simple NAS server exclusively for regular backups:
a) The Bat!
b) Images of working machines (Win 10)
c) Data from the IP camera
d) not exactly, but support for the VPN client l2tp / ipsec

As I understand it, the use of OpenMediaVault threatens.
What do you recommend from cheap iron, the smaller the size and the price, the better.

An old computer with Windows, better than a server one, so that the number of connections is not limited + red WD. Raids are not needed, red WDs are just for us, they are cold and reliable enough.
If there is no computer in the stash / one of the employees is not lying around at home, I would buy a motherboard with a soldered processor and passive cooling, 4G and a small case for the required number of HDDs.

If you seriously thought about considering raspberry (not worth it, seriously), then it might be better to take the simplest one-two-disk models from synology / qnap / wd, optionally with flashing to the desired Linux.
