Question for 3ds Max PROS, how to set up Ignore Backfacing?

6a4aadc806534d308901605fc1d95fd9.jpg
Ignore Backfacing doesn't work as expected. If we have a complex object (such as this sofa in the screenshot), in editable poly and some points face you, as well as those that you want to select, then Ignore Backfacing does not help. It becomes very dangerous to edit an object. Any welds, and indeed any operations on a small piece of an object in one place, can lead to fatal consequences on another, which was selected " through ". How do you deal with it? Are there plugins that allow you to set more stringent conditions for Ignore Backfacing?
Thank you in advance)

First, let's understand what backfacing is in your understanding. Based on the screenshot you provided, everything works correctly, since the selected vertices do not belong to the "wrong side". The ignore backfacing option ignores edges that are turned back to us. In your case, all the faces look at you and are at least partially visible.
In your case, it was enough to switch to the top view and everything will be fine, since in this case all other faces located below will be ignored.
If the object is very complex and you want to focus on a particular part of the object, the easiest way is to select the part you are interested in, invert the selection and hide it. I remember there was another way to lock part of the geometry, but... I don’t remember, I haven’t played with max for a long time...

To be honest, I do not bother in such a situation. I turn on the grid (F3), select, roughly, the necessary vertices, then with the "Alt" pressed, I remove the selection from the extra vertices that I hooked.
