Put a 2TB screw on the laptop, really?

There is a Lenovo Y550 laptop, PM45 chipset.
Is it possible to put a 1.5-2TB screw on it (inside)))?
Supports say that only 320GB were officially tested. At the same time, one support said that the event was extremely risky, and the other said that there should be no problems with 2TB.
Does anyone have a similar experience, otherwise the moneyback is problematic :(

Quite realistic. When will they start producing 2Tb hard drives 2.5 inches. There are no objective reasons for the laptop not to support it. Unless the manufacturer tried and blocked something in the BIOS.

No, it won’t, the height of the usual 2.5 "(in the sense of small in volume) is 9.5mm, everything that is more than 640GB is 12.5mm. So 640GB maximum, or sawing a laptop :)

1. The BIOS of the laptop must support 1-2TB disks.
2. The maximum size of a disk (not a partition!), supported by MBR = 2TB, so it will be possible to boot from any disk no larger than 2TB, subject to the first step.
3. The size of the disk must fit into the compartment. As a rule, volumetric disks are thicker. For example, stately 8.5 mm, and purchased 12.8 mm. It may simply not fit / close with a lid (depending on the design of the compartment.
Before buying, I would recommend looking for a disk similar in size, no matter what volume, and conduct “field tests”.

Throw out the DVD, put another screw in the Optibay instead.

The external screw will fit normally, but on a closed lid.
