Organization of document flow in a small company. Who uses what solutions?

In the process of activity, the number of counterparties and related documentation is constantly growing. Contracts, applications, invoices and other documentation, everything needs to be somehow stored with reference to the counterparty and administered, as well as, if possible, scaled and integrated into other systems, such as CRM.
For example, our workflow evolution was as follows:
Initially, when there was still no office and staff, we created% counterparty name% in Google Drive. In CRM, they tied a link to a folder with documentation to the counterparty, and all this more or less functioned normally. Further, with the move to the office, the disadvantages of such a solution became obvious - the Google Drive tabs that constantly devour the resources of office machines, the need to download documents to a PC, the load on the Internet channel, the need for a Google account.
The next step was the transfer of the entire storage to a local server, the organization of the balls. But here it has become not so convenient to reflect all this in CRM, the paths are all local, for now we put the link file:\\ Well, there are other drawbacks - with an increase in the number of folders-contractors, the explorer does not show the list of folders so cheerfully, the search for documents slows down, duplicates, lack of versification, etc. I am looking for other solutions.
How do you organize document flow in your organization? Interested in simple functional solutions without investments "over9000$".

JIRA is convenient, it covers a lot of problems. Especially with requests.
Documentation - dokuwiki or by linking to Atlassians with Confluence products.
MS Outlook, if you stir it up, but you need to think about how much it will cost to bind to MS, however, if you already have Exchange, then it’s strange that you still haven’t used tasks, shared folders, forms ..
