Not enough RAM, how to solve the problem if it costs Win7x32?
Hello, I would like to ask for help from habrausers.
There is a situation, PC, with Win7x32 on board. x32 because of the working software, there is no way to install x64, working under a virtual machine is very stressful. As a result, Windows sees only 3.61GB.
I also work a lot with graphics, and lately there have been frequent reports that there is not enough memory.
I open the dispatcher and for sure ...
1GB working software
1GB Photoshop
1GB Corel
Still hangs all kinds of software such as asesek and Skype, plus an open browser.
And as a result, sooner or later, 1 program closes by itself due to lack of memory.
Actually the question is what to do except how to close the heavy software? Perhaps there are options?

1) Insert 16GB of memory, install Win7 x64, 32-bit virtualization (for example, XP mode, VMWare, etc.).
2) Increase swap size, move it to SSD.
What other options might there be? Install 64 bits, 16 GB frames. The programs that you named are under 64, which will not start - in a virtual machine at 32.
And you can find out, if it's not a secret, what kind of software that won't run on x64? Are you sure it won't start? x64 Windows quietly runs x32 versions of programs if the x64 assembly does not exist in nature (or is not required). With rare exceptions, really.
Your actual swap size may simply be small, incl. due to lack of space on the system SSD. set your hands to at least 4 or 8 gigs, see how the behavior changes.
Do not be perverted, put x64.
It is unlikely that you have many programs that do not go at all on this
you can put 16 gigabytes of memory, a ram disk that can use memory above 3.61 GB, and place the entire swap on the ram disk. theoretically, this will seriously unload the system
I wonder why only 3.61GB, but how much is there? 4GB? set the /PAE boot option so that all 4GB can see, it will sort out the situation a little, but if more then just upgrade
if messages about a lack of memory began to appear, then this is a swap. increase the pagefile by a few more gigs.
This will not add speed, but it will save you from messages and closing programs.
check that the pagefile is in one piece on disk. if it is divided into 2 or more, then this noticeably slows down the system. if there is a second disk (physical), then move it there.
Put a separate computer with x32 and remote desktop to help you, since virtualization is so annoying for you.
You will work like a man, and when it’s time to use the crooked lane, connect there. I don't know what else to suggest.
devcon.exe works in 64 bits, as far as I know, this is a developer thing for Windows and is available for all versions.
you can also try to buy a flash drive and make boost out of it
I would also leave only the x32 version of this geological program of yours on this computer. all other photoshops nafig brought to a more powerful basin.
3 options:
1. buy another laptop and work with graphics on it, and leave the old one only for “working software”
2. do not keep both Corel and Photoshop turned on at the same time
3. enable PAE (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en -us/library/windows/desktop/aa366796(v=vs.85).aspx)
Comments to comments:
1. PAE (in the desired sense) works only in server operating systems, addressing in excess of 4 GB is blocked in client operating systems.
2. The OS sees all 4GB, it's just that some of them are occupied by devices (mostly by a video card - its entire volume from the point of view of the OS is also RAM).
3. 4GB is the available address space - the swap file (swap, swap) INSIDE this address space. Changing the size and position of the paging file will not affect your situation - it is not used for its intended purpose in your system (however, some related services do not work without it at all, in particular performance counters).
I support several previous speakers, the options are as follows:
1. There are not enough resources for your software, virtualization will not take these resources from nowhere. Change the hardware to a more powerful one (CPU and RAM), install virtualization (to make friends with your software and additional resources).
2. Spread your software across two computers.
3. Use server Windows (if possible, add more memory). Just not the fact that it will take off: at one time MS “blocked PAE” due to the mass of a huge number of drivers that do not understand PAE. It is unlikely that your emulator was specially sharpened for PAE.
