Debian without Xs with ssh + hostapd access.
Put a clean debian on a USB flash drive on a working machine (the bootloader is also on a USB flash drive), install an ssh server and hostapd, configure it, plug it into a netbook .... profit.
This is a recipe for a finished wi-fi router. google it.
