And if the stream is in the shoutcast or icecast (mp3) format - any flash player will work, if the stream is aac + - search / develop for it

Take a look at www.jplayer.org/. Cross-platform and has an impressive list of supported browsers. Integrated for one client. The client is satisfied. Tested in iOS3, android 2.3, and all available desktop browsers. Works.
