Mountain Lion and external display?

Is there a way to work with an external monitor with the internal disabled and the lid open?
The method with prescription sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"from Lion does not work :(

A bunch of ways are described here , but none of them worked for me. Tell me, why is this? And why not satisfied with the decrease in brightness?

It works for me even with the lid closed. At the same time, I did not set anything.

I don’t know how on MBP, but on MBA, if the display brightness is turned to 0 using the FN keys, then the monitor turns off. Is it the same as a working monitor from the point of view of the video card? Have you compared performance?

@Perkov

with the lid closed there is a problem with ventilation, the laptop starts to heat up furiously

Close the lid and place an ordinary eraser under the rear edge (raise the back of the case above the table to remove heat from the bottom cover and outflow hot air from the native air ducts. When the lid is closed, they look almost vertically down). or a box of matches. or use special stands with additional cooling.
