Keyboard not working properly in Ubuntu Server 10.10 console under VMWare 7.1.2?

Good day!
I installed Ubuntu server 10.10 under VMWare, but the trouble is that the arrows are not functional.
the down arrow is equivalent to pressing enter, the console does not react to the rest.
I found a topic on ubuntuforums.org - I'm not the only one with such a problem. It also says that 10.04 suffers from the same problem. Unfortunately, there is no solution in the topic.
Maybe someone has come across a similar one or has an idea in which direction to dig?
PS: everything works fine on Win XP under the same VMWare...

In general, strange behavior, it seems to me that I need to try reinstalling VMWare, and if it doesn’t help, then put a little early version until a bugfix or a working version is released
