Keep the desktop active when disconnected while maintaining permission - how?

Good day!
Given: server (WinXP) and client (Win7) to which there is full access.
Task: software is launched on the server, for which the continuous availability of a desktop with a constant stable specific screen resolution is critical.
Problem: I connect with him via rdp, everything works. After disconnection, the software crashes with errors (apparently, the desktop is cut off).
Question: how to leave the server running without external connections, but with an active desktop and a specific stable screen resolution?
Thank you!

Abandon native RDP.

It's possible. What to replace it with?
Usecase: login, set the desktop resolution, run the software, disconnect and so that it does not crash due to the lack of a desktop or other permission.
