It seems that in the web version of Gmail, new letters are shown automatically and do not need to be updated constantly.
Mail.ru Agent is an instant messaging program, Google's is Hangout.
Thunderbird - email client and alternatives in bulk - The Bat, Outlook, Apple Mail etc...
