But nowhere is it written about whether it is possible to use Skype in the course of working with a client. Is it possible? Has anyone contacted support about this. My upwork is a full-time job, and not just freelancing, I would not want a ban for communication.

To communicate with the client, you can use anything, incl. Skype, you already agree on this in personal correspondence.
However, important information related to work should always be in internal correspondence (in particular, all technical specifications, work reports, etc.), otherwise, in case of any problems with the client, it will be difficult to prove something.
