Is it possible to use SAS 12Gbps on S300 RAID controller?
There is a DELL R310 (e07s) server. Initially there were 2 SAS disks 6Gbps. In the PERC S300 settings they are visible and working. Decided to upgrade the wheels. Bought 4 SAS 12Gbps 900GB drives. After installation, they are not visible in the settings.
Accordingly, the assumption is that the controller does not support them due to the difference in speed. (I will say right away that I have not come across this type of controller and am not very versed in SAS disks). So is it still possible to connect them? The server documentation states:
RAID
controllers Internal controllers:
6 Gb/s SAS HBA
PERC H200 (6 Gb/s)
PERC H700 (6 Gb/s) with 512 MB cache (battery backed); with non-volatile cache 512 MB, 1 GB (with battery backup)
SAS 6/iR
PERC S100 (software based)
PERC S300 (software based)
External HBAs (non-RAID)
LSI2032
External controllers:
PERC H800 (6Gb/s) c) with 512 MB cache (with battery backup); with non-volatile cache 512 MB, 1 GB (with battery backup)
6 Gb/s SAS HBA X8

if after updating the BIOS, idrac, lifecycle controller, backplane, PERC driver, PERC firmware the same song - you need a new controller.
By the way, on the S300 you can not interfere with different types of disks - sas and sata, for example.
I would expect backwards compatibility from 12Gbps drives, but I can't say for sure.
