Is it possible to trust passwords from App Store software?

Downloaded free mac app "Everpass" from app store (not "Ever Password").
Very simple, just what I need. Only the About window doesn't look decent:

The official site is not very presentable either, the author's name (Andreas Wolf) is not found, because it matches the name of the German footballer.
So the question is, do they check the software in Apple before letting it into the app store?

This is the standard About window that Xcode generates. But I wouldn't trust passwords to programs without a reputation. Buy 1password or something similar.
