Is it possible to sharpen cms for personal needs?
It's about developing an online store.
Recently I was asked this question: "Which is better, to make a store on cms or from scratch on the framework?"
It turns out the alignment is as follows:
CMS
- Solves all standard tasks
- In a couple of days we get a ready-made online store for filling
- All sorts of modules and goodies for solving standard tasks
- Budget version of the
framework
- Solves all tasks
- Several months of development
- Expensive option.
The question was asked by a client who is faced with the choice of developing a store on cms or from scratch on a framework.
I answered something like this:
If the store is the most standard one that does not require any unique additions, then of course it is better to take cms, but if you give free rein to your imagination and turn it into TK, then the cms capabilities will start to fade and the result will be a dump truck, which will still need to be rewritten on framework.
So there are two questions at once:
1) Is it possible to finish the finished engine on cms without any bridges, crutches (it doesn’t matter which one, the question as a whole) and make some unique things for the customer’s imagination, and even to work perky?
2) If you were faced with the question of what to develop a store on, what is your answer and your opinion on this matter?

The point is this. The online store is a tool. This is not an end in itself. The goal is to sell a product.
If you are planning a big business, you can easily launch on a CMS, and when you see that the business has taken off and the money is coming, allocate a separate budget for the development of the store, already taking into account the experience.
When we launched the first online pharmacy in Ukraine, it turned out that for the first three years, three times, we developed a new project from scratch.
The first was unsuccessful, because they wanted to shove everything into it. It turned out that it is cumbersome, difficult to maintain, a lot of unused functionality.
The second one was made only with the necessary functionality, a year later.
The third one was made two years later - the design was completely updated and some cardinal changes were made. But due to the fact that we knew exactly our requirements, the development from scratch according to the detailed TOR was already simple.
In general, for a start, you can do something so that it works exactly and could more or less live, for example, for a year. And then - how the business will go.
If there are only a few special goodies, and the rest is standard, then of course cms, and if you need more than 50% of the unique functionality, including reworking the admin panel, then of course you need to take the framework
If there is a large number of alterations for which there are no standard modules, then development on cms will be even longer than on the framework
There are specialized engines for the store, you can come up with some kind of functionality that is not there, but it will be minimal compared to what is already out of the box or what can be found among the plugins. It is worth developing projects on the framework-e that are cardinally different from the existing tools.
You can do it from scratch only when you understand very well why you are not satisfied with the existing ready-made solutions. And this can only be understood by working with existing solutions. Well, or by blinding something of your own, which will almost certainly have to be redone several times, as noted above.
And, of course, a lot depends on the deadlines and the final task. If there is an opportunity to slowly cut something, redo it, but at the same time not earn money, but gradually move towards the ideal, then you can experiment. If the task is to quickly launch the store, then you need to take the finished one.
In short, the answer is this: the first store must be done on a ready-made engine. If you already have experience in launching and operating, and there is a clear understanding of what you want from the store, then you can cut your own.
when starting a business, it will always be the best option to start with a CMS, after, when promoting, of course, it would be ideal to allocate money to create your store, taking into account the specifics of work and sales experience, the ideal option is a year on CMS, and, further according to the situation.
