Is it possible to connect 2 computers via SAS?

There is a task : building your own cheap disk shelf running, for example, FreeNAS, and the ZFS file system, based on ordinary hard drives (not server ones), and a quick connection to the target server.
Considering the ways to connect FreeNAS, OMV, openfiler to the target server, the question arose, is it possible to connect any of these systems to the server via SAS. And in general, in fact, if I understand correctly, in fact, this is the connection of two servers to each other, one of which will pretend to be "NAS".
Accordingly, the following question : does anyone have information or experience: is it possible to connect two computers via SAS controllers and SAS wires to each other for data transfer?
So far, the only fast connection I see is 10Gb iscsi.
Can anyone recommend an alternative?
