Is it possible to configure disk space detection on the fly while deploying an application from a virtual appliance under VMWare?
Hello.
There is a goal to adapt our product to deliver it to the end user as a virtual appliance (how is it in Russian?). At first, under the platform from VMWare.
There is also a requirement to deliver the product in three versions, let's call them conventionally: small, medium and large. One of the differences between the versions is the allocation of disk space, let's say "on the fly", i.e. directly during the deployment of the application from the OVA container.
For example, it might look like a dialog with three options to choose from:
- Small: 62 GB
- Medium: 83 GB
- Large: 150 GB
Is it possible in principle to configure hardware properties on the fly during deployment? If yes, how? Are there any tools for finishing a virtual appliance in this way?
Much in advance.

Do you need vmware? virtualbox for example from the command line provides full access to the virtual machine and even more. kvm all the more fully determines the start of the machine from the command line at the time of startup, ...
Yes, you can, for these purposes there is a special .ovf VM distribution format supported by various hypervisors, you can familiarize yourself with its specification (starting from page 32 is what you need) and make a special description file that will allow the user to choose one during deployment from predefined configuration files.
