Is it worth installing Windows Server 2008 r2 inside a virtual machine?
The bottom line is this: you need to install and run software that was written exclusively for win server 2008 r2 64bit + mssql server 2008 . The requirements for hardware are something like this: fast disks (ssd nvme or sas are suitable here), 16-32 RAM , Xeon without HT (hyper threading).
The question is, if you rent a wheelbarrow on debian and put Windows on a virtual machine, will the performance on the disks drop a lot ? which vwware / virtulbox client is better or something else?
What adequate hostings (price-to-equipment ratio is about the same as that of hetzner) supportwindows server 2008 ?

It will sag of course, but it shouldn't be much. You won't find cheaper Hetzner. Everywhere is 2 times more expensive. If in the Russian Federation, then https://selectel.ru and https://dedic-center.ru are normal.
A moot point, in sievel you can create a database at the 2008 level, the program itself, I think, will also go at the compatibility level. Just check it out at your booth. If there is a desire, I will model and issue recommendations.
Of course, he will sit down, if you have a highload for iops, then there is nothing to catch.
Performance will drop by 20 percent. It is
better to take Hyper-V or ESXI for a hypervisor.
On the same server, they can be installed on the server (esxi is on the list, but hyper-v, as far as I remember, is not, but you can request a console and install from iso).
