The first thing I want to say... Get ready to break off hard.
It's hard for a beginner to get into game design. Simply because all companies want "game dev experience" and they don't care where it comes from.
The second point is a lot of competition and low wages.
Due to a slight touch of "ilitarism" and a large flow of people who want to create their own WoW - the selection for teams is quite, sometimes unreasonably, tough. And salaries, meanwhile, are below average.
This applies even to areas such as development, where the shortage of personnel is much higher than in the ranks of artists and designers.
In general, by the time you start looking - be prepared to be sent more than once or twice, but in the case of an offer - get ready that the amount may not completely satisfy.
After you gain experience, this, of course, can change quite a lot.
There are quite a few of them. A game designer is a cumulative concept, and in small teams it is usually a guy who comes up with and calculates both game logic, gameplay, and monetization, creates a setting, and so on.
In large companies, these "spheres" are usually divided into different people.
And there are a bunch of other positions: level designer, concept designer and character/setting/etc designer.
Do you want to draw? There are quite a lot of vacancies for an artist / illustrator / concept artist and others.
One by one, type in the names of companies known in the game dev field in the search and see vacancies, requirements, and more. Everything is there.

2) What skills do you need to have to become a game artist?
3) Where can I study?

1) Be able to draw.
2) Have a portfolio.
3) Pass an interview.
In general, this is all that is needed. Further, depending on the specifics. Like everything.

azShoo You confused an art person with a game designer. There is a partial combination, and in some companies it can be complete, but a game designer does not have to be a designer at all. A game designer works with mechanics, economics, calculations, data, and game statistics.
The subtlety of graphics in the gaming field is that there are a lot of directions . You need to roughly decide on the genres / types of games. Specializations can be divided up to the coloring of backgrounds, but the path to a narrow specialization goes through general art training.
If we take directly the art direction, success comes only with the operating time. In some cases, it can take up to 10 years to get close to the top artists.
Nevertheless, there are no problems with practice, there are a lot of teams. Choose a genre, type of art, offer services to beginner teams.
