IDE + External hard drive portability possible?

Good afternoon. Need your experience
I have a PC and a laptop working in phpstorm.

After work, there is still work :) and you need to constantly have up-to-date files and data on the PhpstormProjects working folder and the settings of the program itself in two places.
I considered different options for synchronizing one of them via the cloud, but this is a long time due to the number of projects and files. + on a laptop with a 3g modem, this will take forever.

There is an idea to buy an external hard drive and transfer projects there and carry it with you.
Does anyone have similar experience? and if so please share

the storm absolutely does not care where your projects are located, on the built-in disk or external
