Mikrotik

I would like to hear impressions about RouterOS and MikroTik hardware

Based on my question about USB modem routing .
Context: by the will of fate, you have to administer a small office at the end of the world, where rare 2 / 3G data packets fly. There are several workplaces in the office, a server on Linux, on which any software is spinning for internal needs. There is a need to use a team of two USB modems, both together (separation at the level of user requests) and alternately (if one channel drops, users should not notice this).
Thanks to the discussion above, I accidentally found out that there is a wonderful thing MikroTik.
I would be glad if you share your impressions on the following aspects:
1. Is it possible to do predominantly automatic balancing between two channels (moreover, both are USB modems). I mean that in case of plugging one channel, the mode reconfiguration should take place with some simple, one-step action (press reset on the router, poke a link on the desktop or something like that)
2. How much MikroTik equipment is not "absolutely stable"? If it is at least as stable as the Keenetik Giga, that's enough for me.
3. What is better to take?
4. Perhaps a computer on RouterOS is better?
Thank you.

1. Yes (I myself will now fasten the second USB modem-True, I have better 3G / 4G happiness packages).
2. In the same place, I have about 250-300 PCs + the host-pot worked fine and the channel of 20 megabits still works for everyone, everything is comfortable. (Here on such a miracle RB1100AH , I did not work with Keenetic Giga, then judging by Google it loses ....
3. Depending on how many users, what load, maybe RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN may be enough for you ...
4. Maybe be better on a computer ....
By the way, based on your settings for a USB modem and Squid3 in mikrotik, there is a proxy , then either the piece of iron is more powerful or not the PC can be deployed

1. Maybe.
2. You can consider that "absolutely stable" for soho.
3. As I understand it, you will need 2 usb ports, it seems that there is such a thing on the RB435G board.
4. For your task, this will probably be redundant, plus there will be questions to the hardware of your server on the topic of all sorts of glitches.

1. You can, and you can make it all automated, without the participation of the administrator and pressing buttons.
2. Mikrotik is more stable than Kinetics. If you want, it's like comparing a serious solution for business and large complex networks and a home wifi router. We have a network of 100+ computers, it so happened that there was a Kinetic 4g, then there was a Giga - they could not cope. The processor was overloaded, the memory was clogged, out of the 5 MB of the channel only 512 kb was available. True, the channel was wider without NAT, but alas, nowhere without it. With the advent of Mikrotik, everything has changed dramatically. It is more difficult to set up, but then you can no longer touch it.
3. Based on needs.
4. See above

I would advise looking towards miniPCI-E modems, they provide more control options. And there are many different antenna options.
If you are satisfied with the characteristics, then the RB433UAH will fit just right. And 2 USB and 3 miniPCI-E slots (although modems will have to be chosen already with holders for SIM cards)
