I can't figure out how to unpack the archive on the server using FileZilla?
Or can't it be done through FileZilla?

No, it is not possible through filezilla, but if there are restrictions on your hosting, then you can pack it in zip, then download this php script with a zip archive

further in browser open the script, select the archive to unpack and unpack

You can't - only through SSH (command line), php, cron or whatever is available to run on the server
. Depends on the hosting control panel - usually there is such a functionality like importing a site.
