I did the opposite, but it does not change the essence.
1) www.partimage.org you shoot a disk image on a virtual machine and deploy it on a physical machine
2) I had Linux, so I booted from LiveSD on a restored machine, spun into the system partition and did grub install
On Windows, you will most likely need to boot from a USB flash drive and burn the MBR
