How to teach Links Cyrillic?

Just in case, Links is a console browser. By default, Russian text is displayed in transliteration. My dances with the Character set, LANG variable, etc. (what Google suggests) were not successful.
Links 2.2
Ubuntu 10.04.

Out of the box, links2.2 really doesn't know how to utf-8. The previous commenter correctly advises elinks.
But, if you really need links2, then I advise you to look at this patch: lfs.phayoune.org/blfs/view/cvs/basicnet/links.html It adds the necessary functionality.
After applying the patch and compiling, you must then go to the settings:
1). in terminal options select UTF-8 I/O
2). set a suitable Cyrillic encoding like Window$ 1251 (Cyrillic) (it says so there, through $)
3). And choose the language - Russian
And save the whole thing.

In the links settings, you need to select the encoding and language in two places. If now it displays in transliteration, it means that it was set up in only one place.
but the best option is to use elinks

Also at one time I was looking for encoding and language settings in links. When I got tired of reading in transliteration, I switched to w3m

Thanks everyone. Installed elinks.
