How to specify ttl in ping utility?

I'm starting to comprehend networks and met with this question
Using the ping utility, send 50 packets with a size of 1.4Kb and a packet lifetime of 15 to the Google public DNS server (8.8.8.8)
As I understand it, here TTL = 15, and to specify it I need the -i flag, but so that I don’t change it (for example, I specify 15, as it seems to me, it’s necessary), then there is no result (I have 115 TTL by default)

Maybe I’m cardinally wrong, I want to hear something about this. Thanks in advance!

@axantroff

You see the TTL of the response packet. Put not 15, but, say, 5 - you will get a thrashing due to premature death.
