How to sniffer data stream on localhost?

Hello, for some purposes I need to write something like a proxy. For ease of debugging and working out the algorithm of actions, I create a socket connection within one computer, but for some reason I don’t see anything through Wireshark (or should it not show such connections?). Enlighten please, a second computer is needed, or you can somehow see how the data is chasing “on the network” (on the socket).

"you can capture on the loopback interface on Linux, on various BSDs including Mac OS X, and on Digital/Tru64 UNIX, and you might be able to do it on Irix and AIX, but you definitely cannot do so on Solaris, HP- UX, or Windows"
