How to separate chiaroscuro from color in Photoshop?

There is an image of crumpled fabric, there is a task to pull out only chiaroscuro from this image and superimpose it in the form of png on another image, thus giving it volume. The question is, how can I remove all the color pixels from the photo of this fabric and leave the semi-transparent pixels of dark and white to get an overlay layer?
I tried to set the layer with the fabric to Hard LIght, but the result is very unsatisfactory, plus this solution is suitable if you use it in Photoshop, but you need PNG to overlay it on top of the pictures already on the layout.

Something like this. You translate the essence into CMYK and take the black channel. On it you do a mask with inversion. But the shadow will be dirty, you need to add a multiplay filter more
