How to screw up an app update on macOS?

There is an app on NodeJS, respectively written for Windows, Mac and Linux. There is a need to install application updates. With Windows and Linux - you change files and that's it, but what to do with a poppy? There is still a long way to go before the publication in the store :)

If you publish in the store, then update from there.
If the distro is Sparkle.framework, google it.
