How to return associations with .RDP in Windows 7x64?

Good afternoon.
There is a computer with W7, updated with the latest updates.
One left software decided to install the old version of RDP Clent (aka mstsc), changing the associations with the .RDP extension. Icons for saved RDP connections have been replaced with classic XP versions.
Removed the client of the old version from "Programs and Features". Associations with .RDP disappeared altogether.
Through the "default programs" tied to the original version (which has not gone away from system32), but now the saved connections cannot be changed, only opened. The connection icons have been replaced by a sheet of paper with an RDP client depicted on it.
I tried to restore the system - to no avail (most likely due to problems with the domain and group policies)
I deleted and reinstalled updates from the MS website (all four that he offered, KB2592687, KB2574819, KB2923545, there were more) - no reaction.
Is there, in principle, an option to install a more or less recent version through the Windows Installer?
Or maybe fix the associations somewhere else?
Help, I need to get back the ability to change saved connections and return normal icons.
