How to properly set up docker?

Hello, I can't get it to work. For example: sudo docker run -i ubuntu:12.04 /bin/bash doesn't give me access to bash. When you look at sudo docker ps, it is empty, and if with the key "a", then it writes in the status "exit -1". The logs are empty. I'm using ubuntu 13.10, kernel 3.11.0-18-generic.
