How to properly pull a repository in Jenkins?

Hey!
Tell me how to pull the repository in Jenkins? As far as I understand, there is a plugin that works with git, but it does git clone every time? If the rep is already cloned and you need to pull before starting the build, is it possible to do this in the build settings? Or should it be done as a step in a shell script?
I know very little about this, I will be very grateful for a detailed answer or a link where you can read :)
