Why can't I stop jenkins?

[email protected]:~/web/qvbee$ sudo service jenkins status
6 instances of jenkins are running at the moment
but the pidfile /var/run/jenkins/jenkins.pid is missing
[email protected]:~/web/qvbee$ sudo service jenkins stop
 * Stopping Jenkins Continuous Integration Server jenkins                       java: no process found
daemon: no process found
