The router solution is good. In this case, the attacker will not be able to break through the NAT, but this solution is no worse than the included Firewall. What is the last thing that scares or worries you?
You will get complete protection against hacking if you install a paranoid antivirus similar to Kaspersky, turn off all USB devices, sound and network cards, turn off the monitor, cider and keyboard - then yes - "protection is what you need"!
