How to master the front end?

Hello everyone, I recently started studying web programming, climbed on similar issues, but still I’ll clarify my own.
While I'm focused on mastering the front end, I finish reading "Learning HTML, XHTML and CSS" from the Freemen, and I think what's next, look for additional literature on css, read separately, for example, their own textbook on HTML5, or take up Java? In general, I’m interested in the steps in the correct sequence, what and after what to take, and also how deep, for example, to delve into CSS before learning Java? is to create from 0).
According to Java, I found these books on the recommendations:
David Flanagan / David Flanagan - JavaScript. Detailed Guide (6th edition)
Head First O'Reilly - Freeman Eric, Robson Elisabeth - Learning JavaScript Programming
Expressive JS Second Edition Mareyin Haverberk

The first step is not to call CSS - css. (Learn English)
Second - PRACTICE AND PRACTICE! Put the books aside, open the editor and go to battle. Don't you understand? .. I opened the book, read it - did it. Or google.
An example is also for practice: html.academy, code.school
Learn to typeset correctly, and then to JS.

Books are worth reading when you have already delved into and want to delve into the topic. A beginner does not need books on Japanese, they will only eat up time. So start with practice and google.
