How to make TabItem stretch over text in TabLayout and not have equal width?

I need the text to fit and stretch the tab. Now, by default, TabItems are stretched to make all existing tabs equal.
Additional question:
How can I change the layers for animation so that the tabIndicator is under the TabItem, not above it. The task is to make a transparent TabItem, and under it the tabIndicator was a certain color and thus the selected tab would be highlighted
