How to make normal (ASCII) rendering of panels in Midnight Commander?

Some time ago for some of the connections through Putty, the rendering of panels in Midnight Commander fell off, and now instead of drawing using ASCII lines, the panels are drawn as shown in the image.
Help bring it back!

Change the encoding in the connection settings.
Try options: utf8 or koi8r
