Why does File manager mc show koryakozyabry on the sides?

Hello, I installed virtual box. And the "mc" file manager via "sudo apt-get install mc". Everything is installed but shows "A z" instead of a line. I am a noob in Linux. Please advise how to cure. Here's a picture of what I'm showing:

change terminal encoding

Try using putty instead of gitBash. If the problem goes away in Putty, then delve into the encoding settings of the gitBash terminal. If not, the locales on the server may have been lost.
