How to implement backup on Debian server?

Right now I am syncing with GDrive using rclone.
I need to have file versions, not just one.
How can this be implemented?

PS. Maybe somehow using archives (tar for example), and then synchronize with GDrive?

Use borg, a backup system with compression, encryption, and deduplication. Here you will find a ready-made backup script with borg + rclone.
