I.e? The kernel itself provides almost everything you need. And if you are talking about proprietary drivers for a video card, for example, then the Ubuntu tool "Additional drivers" (or whatever it is) is just a gui that installs the appropriate package. They are available on any distro.
UPD: For me, typing something like "sudo aptitude install nvidia-352" is even easier
