How to enable sound in Windows 8.1?

Hello. In Windows 8.1 there is no sound, as if it were not there at all. when you click on the icon in the sound taskbar, it gives the following error: "Maybe no hardware configuration changes were detected, no sound", when you hover over the icon, it shows this error: "Audio output device is not installed". This needs to be fixed, but I don't know how. I've been trying to solve this problem for a whole year. I don't want to reinstall Windows yet, because important data remains. These are extreme measures if you really have to reinstall. I want to solve the problem without installing the system.
I will also add:
in the device manager there is no "audio inputs and audio outputs", but there is a "High Definition Audio Controller (microsoft)" with a yellow exclamation mark in the system devices, I update it via the Internet, it shows that everything is fine and no updates are required. and the sound doesn't work either. in general, where to look for drivers xs ...
Another moment, in another exactly the same computer with the same Windows, the sound works fine. and it has audio inputs and audio outputs in the device manager and there are no exclamation marks anywhere. here in general

Open the device manager and see if there are audio devices or unknown devices - download all the drivers. If everything is in order - look in the BIOS to see if the sound device is enabled.
