How to eliminate image artifacts in Firefox?

79370f5728c245788bc568cdb8a0504a.jpg
Windows 8.1 enterprise x64 with updates
Nvidia Geforce gtx 275
Mozilla Fierfox 36.0.1
Artifacts mostly appear on small and medium images. Uncommon: 1 out of 10/20 pages may contain such pictures (there may be several).
Scanned for viruses. Everything seems to be clean.
There are no such artifacts in other browsers.
Portable FF does not have the same version of the artifacts.
Disabling all plugins does not remove artifacts.
Reinstalling FF does not solve the problem (I also cleaned AppData\Roaming)
Changing the video driver version to a later one also did not work.
How to eliminate image artifacts in Firefox?
And more importantly, what could be causing them?

Try disabling hardware acceleration in the Firefox settings - it seems to be some kind of graphics card issue.
Or update / rollback video card drivers.
