How to edit someone else's code?
Hello!
A question. On freelance, there are orders in which you need to fix someone else's layout.
And that's how it works? You are given files to edit. If there is pure html css,
then in principle it is clear how to edit. But what if preprocessors or assemblers are used?
How then to edit someone else's code?
Sit down and figure it out? It seems like a debt. And if the customer needs to quickly?

Everything is individual.
In a good way, the code should be stored in a repository. Those. you are given access to turnips. Then you work as with a normal project.
If the statics are compiled, then they must give access to the source files of the statics and instructions for compiling.
But this is in an ideal world.
In the real world, it happens that the source code is lost. Then you have to manually edit the code. In this case, you can use any css-beautifier, then after editing the code, you can compress it back.
Instead of a turnip, there may be access via ftp / ssh. Well and in the worst case - access through a web muzzle.
Hmm ..
On the example of some site on Wordpress
Most often, such an order comes when a dozen of hand-assists have already coded the fur as they wanted before you, and when the global fur animal finally arrived, this order comes just to you.
At best, you have access to both the admin panel and FTP, at worst - only to the admin panel. On WordPress, if you didn’t initially do the layout, the styles will already be compiled and there is most likely no access to the source code.
Then you try to figure out this mess of shit code, and, perhaps, fix what you need. It took nine-tenths of the time to find the right place, one-tenth of the work itself.
And when you think that you have seen everything in this life now, the next day changes come to the site, which is even worse ...
Understanding and working in preprocessors is much faster than in one shitty css file . The
question is more to your qualifications. If all you know how to do is open the inspector in the browser and make changes there, and then roll over the existing ones, then yes, this is all super difficult for you.
If the customer needs it faster, let him do it himself.
If this is difficult and long for you, then there is nothing faster than yelling "Free Cashier". And then, according to reviews, it’s just one time, and when you scream all day, your voice sits down. And these caps are incomprehensible ...
