How to copy a wedding DVD?

They gave me a CD with a wedding. Plays on DVD players. On when inserting a disk into a laptop, it says that the disk is empty, "7.96 GB is free from 7.96 GB." The disc may have copy protection. They can no longer contact the studio, since the recording of the disc was made more than 5 years ago. What to try to do, where to dig?
