How to convert an icon to lines?

There is a task to translate a vector icon into stroke lines so that you can change the thickness. Is it possible to do this in Illustrator? Or do I need to manually draw curves?

Divide the outer and inner contour into two open segments, make a blend between them in one step, expand it, clean it up and give thickness. Complex graphics may require multiple passes.
