How to connect several PCs via wi-fi and do I need a router?
It is necessary to connect 3-4 computers and a couple of printers to the network. All of them have access to wi-fi. Win7 OS.
I heard that wi-fi can be combined without a router, then what's the point of buying it?
Actually:
1) Do I need to buy a router, if so, which one?
2) How to set up the whole thing?
Sorry for the noob question, I'm not savvy on the networks. ;)

If these computers are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, then they are already connected, open access to the printer and look for it in through the search for printers
You can do this if you manage to configure IPs on the same subnet for printers and if the wifi printer adapter supports this mode.
Here is the instruction how to do it.
But better not worry and put an access point, they are now very cheap.
You can connect devices via wi-fi without a router, but in your case, a router is still needed. Buy a good wi-fi router, connect all computers and printers to it via wi-fi, and you will have a local network that unites all these devices. Optionally, you can connect Internet access for the entire network or for individual devices.
The setup is not very complicated, enable DHCP in the router and all devices will automatically receive an IP address. Set wi-fi to secure the WPA2 network and a password to access this network. It is impossible to describe the setting in more detail, because it will depend on the model of the router.
