How to connect laptop to tv/monitor via hdmi?

There is a laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad s340 15iwn) with hdmi on board. HDMI does not work either with adapters to vga or with a pure hdmi cable, despite the fact that the cables are working and the monitor with the TV is also (tested on another laptop), so the problem is in the connector itself. I already decided that I got a marriage, BUT, my friend has the same laptop, bought a little earlier, also does not work with any cable or TV. Either this is a manufacturing defect of both laptops (how likely is this at all?), Or it's the hdmi version or something like that. Please help, I've been scratching my head all day.

This is a common problem for this model with intel processors, they write here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series... that the problem occurs when the SATA controller is running in AHCI mode and transition to RST mode helps. I don’t know exactly what helped me from what I did, but I did the following:
1. Installing driver / bios updates from lenovo.com - you will need to install the LSB (Lenovo Service Bridge) diagnostic utility and, possibly, launch the browser in administrator mode.
2. Launching hardware diagnostics on this site ("Hardware diagnostics")
As a result, the hdmi port came to life.
