How much RAM do you need?
Native four GB of RAM is not enough.
I work in the office, I watch all sorts of garbage on the Internet, usually the memory is 67% loaded with four tabs open. The laptop supports 32GB of RAM, two sticks of 16.
How much would you bet? 2x16 (32) or 2x8 (16)?

16 should be enough for most tasks. Although if you need several running IDEs or virtual machines, it makes sense to set 32.
16 is enough for Word and all sorts of garbage, but in fact this is a comfortable minimum, and you need to set 32
For purely office work - a browser, Word, Excel, as a rule, 8GB is enough. This is the necessary minimum.
If you run some heavy applications - graphic editors, development environment, etc. then at least 16 GB.
In general, it depends on the tasks.
The amount of memory required depends on the tasks. Think about what you need a computer for. Think about what you would like to speed up.
Now open the Resource Monitor (Start \ Run \ Resmon.exe ) and try to do it.
Look at the Memory tab.
If the memory remains free and there are few page faults, then there is enough memory.
If the memory is almost full and there are a lot of page faults all the time, then with an increase in the amount of memory, it is possible that acceleration will be obtained.
You can also look in the Task Manager (for more details, tab "performance" "memory" "allocated"). There will be the total amount of allocated memory and, through a fraction, the peak value - this is basically how much virtual memory is allocated and the maximum allocated in your system. If this amount is greater than the physical memory, then from time to time memory will be unloaded to disk and loaded from disk (the same page faults).
Also note that page faults do not necessarily come from a lack of memory, but also for internal reasons (sometimes this is normal).
I am only a student at heart, but the disk should only be ssd, and the RAM should be as much as the motherboard allows you to use, in any case, it is impossible to develop less than 16GB.
A minimum of 32 is required.
In all old laptops I put the maximum, how much they support, it somehow prolongs their life. And it definitely pays for the money. Nerves and time are more valuable than money. If you need a browser and Word / Excel - 16 is enough. But for full-fledged comfortable work (several browsers, virtual machine, toy, ide, photoshop) you need 32. All unused RAM goes under the file cache, which, as it were, speeds up in any case. Otherwise, this makes it possible not to think that the memory is full, and work without brakes. There is also such a thing as a RAM disk, but this is for very fanatical optimizers, and with this attitude it will seem that 32 is not enough. It doesn't matter what tasks. Today you watch garbage on the Internet, and tomorrow you are already downloading a new cool toy or trying another OS in a virtual machine for fun or for the sake of science. You need to put the maximum so as not to regret later.
