How is it convenient to sniff http traffic of an open wifi network?

The task was to debug an application from a smartphone on a computer. It is necessary to intercept http traffic. At first I wanted to roll a dd-wrt router, but then I became too lazy to bother and decided that for such a short time it would be better to make the network open and intercept from the computer.
I would like to ask how you can organize it? It is desirable under Windows and GUI, but it is possible to stick also linux.
Do I need a special wifi adapter with a modified driver?
